Firstly, abdominal separation is defined as having >2 finger widths between the rectus abdominis muscles (AKA 6 pack muscles) during contraction of these muscles. This can occur as a result of pregnancy or it can even develop in the first 8 weeks after giving birth. The distance is one thing that is assessed, and what is also of interest is the quality of the abdominal wall and how it is working and supporting you.
Not sure if you have an abdominal separation? or if it is working how we want it to? AND you've had a baby recently or years ago than it can still something to get checked. Call PhysioSpec to make an appointment.
